Eleanor Jingzhi Yu

Eleanor Yu is a first-year student at the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Economics with a minor in Data Science. Her research interests include educational theory and policy, and she hopes to continue studying the intersection of economics and policy in the education landscape. Previously, she conducted a 1-year independent research project on the impact of entrepreneur teams’ gender composition and venture type on their outcomes at college business plan competitions. She applied a modification of the Pearce and David (1987) framework of corporate mission statements, and used a mixed-methods approach consisting of both content analysis and semi-structured interviews. She was able to present her findings at the Academy of Business Research’s Summer 2025 Conference. Eleanor is also the founder of The Pen Wielders’ Society, a creative writing program for youth. She has reached over 200 3rd-5th graders through intensive summer workshops and classroom visits. She plans to continue expanding The Pen Wielders’ Society by offering online courses and publishing an anthology of youth writers’ works. Outside of research and teaching, she is a published novelist and works as a student consultant for companies like Peacock TV, OLIPOP, and MasterClass.
